Wild Women Whitewater Canoeing Skills Clinic

Join our incredible instructors for a 2 day moving water skills clinic! This is an introductory moving water tandem course. We begin with a review of basic canoeing tandem skills followed by an introduction of moving water principles and boat maneuvers. We will be paddling in class 1 and 2 rapids throughout the course.  For this weekend we’ll be camping out at Jessup’s Campground in Palmer Rapids.  The lower section of the Madawaska is an ideal place to learn to paddle and for practicing new skills.

Arrive after dinner on Friday evening and we will wrap up on Sunday before dinner so you can head home in the light. Campsite fees and a delicious Saturday night feast are included in the cost of the weekend.

Northern Ontario North Channel Kayak Trip

Sea Kayak Skills Clinic

Join your kayak guide Ally Lyske for a 3 hour skills clinic and learn everything you’ll need to have a fantastic experience on your North Channel Kayak trip.  We’ve created this awesome clinic to suit both beginner and intermediate paddlers!  If you are already an advanced kayaker, please just show your wet exit to your guide on the first day of the trip.  No prob!

The clinic will cover the basics, including parts of the kayak and paddle, paddle signals, strokes for turning, stopping, moving sideways and an efficient stroke to conserve energy for a full day of paddling.  We’ll also cover getting into & out of the boat, what to do if you tip over, how to handle yourself in windy conditions and effective use of the kayak rudder.  For more intermediate paddlers you’ll get coaching to master your paddle strokes and get to practice a kayak rescue.

The skills clinic will include:

- the wet exit
- parts of the kayak, skirt, paddle, etc
- lifting & carrying the kayak
- getting in/out in various conditions
- an efficient forward stroke for hours of paddling
- key strokes such as reverse, stopping, forward/reverse sweeps, drawing, sculling & bracing
- use of the rudder, paddling in windy conditions, paddle signals
- kayak over kayak rescues after a dump

Arrive by 1pm the first day of your trip for your clinic from 2-5pm.  Take in a hot sauna, cool off and have some chill time before a delicious dinner cooked by our lovely base camp hosts!!!
